How It
Works

These experiences provide members with a deep understanding of how school districts and local governments operate and how we can work together to positively impact student outcomes. Through the program, participants will consider how they are best able to serve – either as an advocate or in their own run for civic office – whether they choose to serve on a school board, local/regional government, or other organization. This project is made possible by an investment from Blue Meridian Partners.

Why It
Matters

Too often, the people who are most affected by leadership decisions are not present at the table to share their experiences and ideas. The Civic Leadership Program empowers those who wish to serve – either as an elected official or community advocate – who may otherwise not have full access to opportunity. If you have the passion, interest, dedication, and commitment – the Civic Leadership Program can provide the information, skills, and support for you to become an educational advocate!

Eligibility
& Timelines

Eligibility: City of Dayton resident, age 18 or older Strong candidates will have a demonstrated interest in learning more about school boards and/or local offices, a track record of community service, and a focus on improving educational outcomes for students. If you perceive any barriers in your ability to participate (examples: child care, transportation, work schedules, etc.), please contact us for potential accommodations. 2025-2026 Timeline: Applications open May 1, 2025. Optional Information Sessions: In-Person Session: Thursday, May 1, 4-6 p.m., Dayton Metro Library - Main Campus, Bassani Theatre (3rd Floor). Lite Fare Available. Register Here. Virtual Session: Thursday, May 8, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. via Zoom. Register Here. Virtual Q&A: Wednesday, June 11, 9-10 a.m. via Zoom. Register Here. (Drop in session for final application questions) Applications close on June 15, 2025. Interviews conducted July 7-11 and 14-15. Announcement of new cohort late July. Applicants should hold session dates.

Course Schedule

The Civic Leadership Program is a thoughtfully curated series of hands-on experiences, information sessions, and engaging field trips. Class members may not miss more than 3 sessions to be able to successfully graduate from the program, so it is critical to review your schedule before applying.
