Building on the momentum of its successful debut, Learn to Earn Dayton, in collaboration with an advisory council of expert community partners, is proud to announce the launch of the second year of the Civic Leadership Program (CLP). This transformative training academy is designed to empower local residents with the leadership skills and knowledge necessary to advocate effectively for students and families.
As only the third location in the nation to implement this model - originally inspired by Cincinnati’s "School Board School" - the program aims to cultivate a robust cohort of leaders prepared to run for local elected office or serve on influential advisory committees.
The Civic Leadership Program provides participants with intensive training in civic engagement and coalition-building. The curriculum is designed to help residents create systemic impact within both schools and local government.
Participants in the Year 2 cohort will gain in-depth knowledge of:
Leadership roles within schools, nonprofits, and governing bodies.
Key issues and policies specifically impacting Dayton students and families.
Proven strategies for effective civic engagement and building powerful coalitions.
The practical processes involved in running for local office.
The program requires a dedicated commitment, with cohort members participating in over 20 sessions held over the course of ten months. To ensure a well-rounded experience, the curriculum features:
Expert guest speakers and interactive workshops.
Engaging field trips and hands-on learning experiences.
A collaborative environment to better understand the challenges and opportunities of elected leadership.
The upcoming cycle of the Civic Leadership Program will commence in August 2026 and conclude in April 2027. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend one of the following informational sessions to learn more:
